Fairmont, WV
Fairmont, West Virginia, located in Marion County occupies the steep hills surrounding the Monongahela River, which divides the town.
Originally a coal-mining county, today, the town is in a high-tech corridor with a NASA software facility and a cluster of software companies in the area.
The hills and country roads of West Virginia offer the outdoor sportsman an exciting array of recreational activities. The Valley Falls State Park is located on the Tygart River, just over ten miles southeast of Fairmont. You can hike, picnic, camp, or find a tranquil spot to fish. For the more adventurous, raging whitewater rapids offer an exhilarating experience.
There are many historical destinations, as well as places to learn about coal mining. Fairmont is peppered with period homes dating back two centuries.
