Each year, the Sundance Film Festival kicks off in Park City, Utah. If you've never heard of Sundance, think of it as the Oscars for independent films. Sundance is where many multimedia and production school graduates get their first big break. Only a 45-minute drive from West Jordan and Provo, Utah, the festival is easily accessible from Utah's top multimedia and production schools.
TechSkills' innovative training combines personal attention from Industry Certified Instructors with hands-on labs, small group activities, convenient e-learning options and much more.
This year marked the first time that both the jury and audiences selected the same documentary and dramatic films as winners--God Grew Tired of Us and Quinceanera.
In addition, the film House of Sand was selected for the Alfred P. Sloan award, which includes a $20,000 cash prize. The Alfred P. Sloan award recognizes outstanding independent films in the subjects of science and technology.
At Sundance, Everyone is Welcome
The Sundance Festival was started in 1981 by director Robert Redford; unlike the Oscars, tickets are publicly available. Tickets can be purchased individually, or as a festival pass, which grants you access to a group of screenings.
If you're a true film production buff, then someday you should find a way to get a festival pass. The full passes are expensive (around $2,000), but you can try purchasing the Adrenaline Pass for access to movies showing before 10 AM and after 10 PM ($350). You can also try the Awards Weekend Pass ($200), which is for entrance to the final awards weekend of screenings and the Awards Night Party.
The Perfect Place for Multimedia Production School
It should be no wonder that the West Jordan and Provo area hosts multimedia and production schools for aspiring filmmakers. It's close enough to Park City, Utah that you can learn multimedia production skills from the best independent productions at the Sundance Festival. The Sundance foundation in Park City also hosts a year-round training program, available to a limited number of film production students.
At the center of independent films, Provo and West Jordan, Utah, are great places to start your multimedia training.
