Provo, UT
Provo is Utah's second largest city with a population of 105,000. It is a clean, pleasant city beautifully situated between the Wasatch Mountains and the 250-square mile Utah Lake.
Provo's main claim to fame is Brigham Young University, a 30,000-student university founded and run as the leading Mormon institution of higher learning. It is the largest church-affiliated university in the country, and its cultural offerings and sports programs play an integral role in Provo.
The mountains surrounding Provo provide good hiking, mountain biking, and fishing opportunities among beautiful alpine scenery. In winter there is downhill and cross-country skiing at Sundance Ski Resort, owned by Robert Redford, as well as the annual Sundance Film Festival.
Also near town is the Mt. Timpanogos Cave National Monument and Bridal Veil Falls. You can also pay a visit to Utah Lake State Park. Provo also has many local attractions including the Bean Life Science Museum, Fort Utah, and the Seven Peaks Resort Water Park for students and residents alike to enjoy. |
