Looking to earn your degree in interior design? Houston, Texas could be the ideal location for you.

The reason? In addition to being home to a number of the country's largest builders, Houston has been experiencing a surge in residential development recently. This means plentiful opportunities for those looking to obtain both an interior design degree and ample on-the-job experience.

A Bit About Houston
In addition to being home to a number of excellent colleges and universities, Houston hosts the world-famous NASA Space Center and several professional sports teams. Contrary to stereotypes of Texans, it also features an impressive arts scene, including resident companies in all four major performing arts (drama, ballet, symphony and opera)--not to mention some of the nation's best shopping.

What's more, because the greater Houston area covers more land than any other city in the country, this large, ethnically diverse, vibrant city offers a wide variety of housing options, ranging from historic residences to urban loft-style apartments. All of this makes Houston, Texas an ideal location to study interior design.

Getting Hands-On Interior Design Experience
Why is access to a wide variety of housing styles so important to your interior design career? Because you'll need hands-on experience while studying for your degree and preparing to sit for the national licensing exam.

Of course hands-on experience is just one part of the equation. First you'll need to complete two to four years of basic interior design coursework, covering everything from ethics and psychology to drawing, perspective, colors and fabrics, furniture design, spatial planning, architecture, ergonomics and computer-aided design (CAD).

If you're looking to launch your interior design career in Space City, attending one of Houston's many local colleges could be the answer for you.
