Memphis, TN
Memphis is not only a musical Mecca, it's also the largest city in Tennessee with over 650,000 residents. The city is recognized as the birthplace of rock and roll. It's renowned for being the city where Elvis Presley recorded many of his hits and the home of Graceland, Elvis's mansion, which is open to the public.
Memphis also boasts a wide variety of different cultural and educational institutions, educating and entertaining residents and visitors today. There are a large number of museums, among them the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, the oldest art museum in Tennessee, with the largest collection of European and American works, as well as the Museum of the Lower Mississippi River Valley, which has over 5,000 artifacts telling the story of river transportation and the natural and cultural history of the area.
Memphis offers several theatres; the Memphis Botanic Garden, which covers ninety-six acres; and the Memphis Zoo, which has over 3000 exhibits.
With so much to offer, Memphis remains one of the great cities to live, work, and go to school in, especially for the musically and culturally inclined. |
