Media, Pennsylvania, 12 miles west of Philadelphia, enjoys close proximity to some of this country's greatest landmarks in architecture. More importantly, it contains a number of technical and mechanical schools, so earning a degree in architectural/civil engineering in Media is a great way to launch your career.

The quaint suburban town of Media is known as "Everybody's Hometown." It's the only suburban town in the U.S. with a trolley running down the middle of the street. And it's home to the Delaware County Institute of Science and the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology, making it a hub for architectural and civil engineering activity.

Architecture in Philadelphia

No other city in the nation can boast the rich cultural and historical offerings that Philadelphia can. Media's next-door neighbor, Philadelphia is the second largest eastern city and one of the largest college towns in America.

Originally a planned city, Philadelphia's history in architecture dates back to Colonial days. Its baroque-style City Hall building is the tallest load-bearing structure in the world--a wonder for engineering students. And the Philadelphia Savings Fund Society building (now the Loews Philadelphia Hotel) is widely considered the nation's first International Modernist skyscraper.

Today, 13 skyscrapers are under construction, nine are under renovation, six have begun prep planning, and seven are in the planning phase. Clearly, the City of Brotherly Love is also the city of urban development. Philadelphia's Neighborhood Transformation Initiative has gained nationwide attention as one of the most comprehensive local revitalization strategies in history, promising plenty of career opportunities for those getting their education in the area.

Career Education in Architectural/Civil Engineering

Civil engineers help to build public architecture--better streets, highways and facilities--for cities. The Bureau of Labor Statistics says that population growth, increased emphasis on infrastructure and security, and urban redevelopment will spur civil engineering job growth. And after earning your career education in Media, you're likely to make a good living--the BLS reports a median annual salary of more than $60,000. So start building your career today in Media, PA!
