Ohio MPA Progams: Start Your Career in Public Service

Some of the biggest frustrations that public administrators face are red tape, apathetic citizens, and all kinds of social and economic problems. But a city like Seven Hills, Ohio, which has a small population (13,000 residents), a high voter turnout, and a per household income of $55,000 a year, is a good place to build a career in the field.

Seven Hills students looking to earn a master's of public administration have plenty of opportunities to apply their education in real-world situations. Community activism, localized government, and manageable numbers are ideal for those looking to launch a career in public service.

Be a Big Fish in a Small Pond

In a small town, it's easy to mix traditional classroom education with hands-on experience. As you work towards your MPA, you'll be able to participate in a much broader range of focus groups, demonstrations, legislative meetings, campaigns, public works, and other important career-building activities. Contrast this with a city like Manhattan. Although you might see a lot happening around you, it's nearly impossible to get involved at a grassroots level and see how the political, urban planning, health care administration, and public education systems work together to build a society.

Completing your education in a small town like Seven Hills allows you to become a big fish in a small pond. After graduation, you can of course move to larger cities, but why would you want to? Seven Hills has much to offer in the way of career opportunities and livability.

Building a Career in Seven Hills

Like much of Ohio, Seven Hills has emerged as an extremely fertile testing ground for political activism and community involvement. The last two presidential elections are perfect examples of that. And in 2004, students from Seven Hills fought to include gays and lesbians in nearby Cincinnati's legislation on protected groups. Every dollar and hour that you invest in public administration will go much farther in an environment like Seven Hills. Its community supports widespread participation from citizens, students, constituents, public officials, and educators alike.
