As the nation's second largest banking center, Charlotte, N.C. hosts the headquarters of two of the nation's largest bank holding companies, Bank of America and Wachovia. Four of the nation's top 15 banks, 354 mortgage bankers, 59 commercial finance and factoring firms, 15 leasing companies and a branch of the Federal Reserve are also found here.
Charlotte is one of those rare cities offering an abundance of business career opportunities--while still being affordable. It ranks sixth nationally in its number of Fortune 500 companies (there are 306), but Charlotte's cost of living ranks below the national average. In 2005 alone, Charlotte saw almost 12,000 new jobs created, and in 2004 it was ranked America's Most Livable Community.
With all it has to offer those looking for a career in business, Charlotte may be the best place in the country to earn your BBA degree in finance.
What Can You Do With a BBA in Finance?A bachelor's degree in business administration (BBA) from one of Charlotte's business schools will teach you about financial theory, planning and analysis. Coursework will include economics, finance, investments and credit analysis.
Upon completion, you'll be ready for a career in business as a bank branch manager, a stockbroker, an underwriter, a financial planner or perhaps a financial analyst.
Bright ProspectsThe Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that employment of financial analysts and personal financial advisors will increase faster than average through 2014. With baby boomers entering retirement, people living longer and the market becoming increasingly globalized, these financial experts will be in great demand - especially in Charlotte, where many of the companies handling these concerns are based. Median annual earnings for financial analysts in 2004 were a healthy $61,910, and for personal financial advisors they were $62,700.
