Using sound waves to produce images may sound like something from Star Wars, but that is exactly what ultrasound technology involves. Enroll in an ultrasound program and your ultrasound technician training can be the key to a career at the forefront of medical technology.
Your ultrasound program will encompass a wide range of interesting subjects including physiology, physics, anatomy, and medical ethics. Accredited ultrasound technician training will develop you into a skilled user of ultrasound equipment so you can produce high quality images which a physician can use to make a medical diagnosis.
Graduation from Your Ultrasound Program: Next Steps
You may have heard of ultrasound in the context of images which are taken to check on the development of a pregnant woman's baby (gynecologic sonography). Ultrasound technicians can specialize in a number of other specialist fields including abdominal sonography, neurosonography (the brain), and ophthalmologic sonography (the eyes). You need not be licensed to practice as an ultrasound technician. However, employers like to hire ultrasound technicians who have proven competency, demonstrated by registration with organizations such as the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
