Detroit, MI
If you study in Detroit you'll find it is a city in transition. Recent years have seen it grow and change as the downtown is revitalized and civic pride returns.
Detroit is also a city of variety. It is where music's Motown Sound was born and is also home to the highly respected Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Almost every sport is represented in Detroit, with baseball's Tigers, hockey's Red Wings, and basketball's Pistons, to name a few.
The visual arts are not neglected in the Motor City. Painting, industrial and fashion design, and architecture all thrive. Of course, the major item of industrial design is that icon of America, the automobile. The city and the surrounding area are still the home to much of America's auto industry. Some of the factories hold tours.
If the outdoors calls to you after hours of sitting in a classroom, Detroit and nearby areas offer boating, hiking, and biking, as well as fishing and golf. |
