Do you love boats and water sports? Want to turn that interest into a career? Enrolling in a marine and watercraft technician training program could be a smart investment in your future. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that marine and watercraft technicians who've completed a formal training program have better jobs prospects than those with no education.
Why Consider Marine and Watercraft Technician Training?
According to the International Boat Industry, per capita boat ownership in the United Stages is 1.23. When you consider that boats, jet skis, and other watercraft break down just like other engines, it's not surprising that jobs for technicians are expected to rise between 9 and 14 percent through 2014.
What Marine and Watercraft Technicians Do Marine mechanics learn to tune and repair the mechanical and electrical equipment of both inboard and outboard engines. While inboard engines are brought to a shop, larger diesel or gasoline engines are only removed for major repairs, with most work taking place dockside. Marine and watercraft technicians also receive training in plumbing, propeller and steering equipment repairs.
Living and Studying In Orlando, Florida
While this is seasonal work in many locations, that's not the case in Florida, where boating is available year round. What's more, because Florida is surrounded by water, it's a logical place to receive your marine and watercraft technician training.
Known for its famous theme parks, including Universal Studios and Disney World, Orlando, Florida is a popular vacation destination. With its temperate climate, numerous local colleges, easy access to lakes and beaches, and thriving economy, Orlando is also a great place to live, study and work. What's more, Orlando offers a lower cost of living than many other metropolitan locations, making it an affordable place to begin a new career.
If you're looking to study where it's warm, fun and sunny, Orlando, Florida could be the perfect place to get your marine and watercraft technician training.
