Flagstaff, AZ
With around 76,000 residents, the city of Flagstaff is situated at the foot of the San Francisco Peaks in northern Arizona. With 300 days of sunshine a year, moderate temperatures year round, it has a climate suitable for a variety of different sports, making it perfect for outdoor enthusiasts.
Flagstaff is home to the Museum of Northern Arizona, established in 1928 as a repository for Native American artifacts and natural history specimens from the nearby Colorado Plateau. Flagstaff is also home to the Lowell Observatory, a privately owned astronomy research institution that opens many of its facilities to the public.
Just outside the city is the Arboretum, situated within one of the largest stands of ponderosa pine in the United States. At 7,150 feet above sea level, it is home to one of the largest collections of high country wild flowers in America. In addition, its botanical garden, environmental education center, and research station cover over 200 acres. |
