Mobile, AL
The city of Mobile, Alabama, situated on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico, was established at the beginning of the eighteenth century as a shipping port.
With international trade being part of Mobile's history for over 300 years, the city has been strongly influenced by its trade links to Europe and the Orient. Today you can see evidence of this international influence in its culture and architecture. Mobile's history is on view at five houses that have been turned into museums, displaying artifacts collected by residents throughout the city's history.
Mobile's coastal location makes it an ideal spot for anyone interested in water sports or studying marine life. Sea Lab, located on Dauphin Island at the mouth of the bay, features a range of different plants and animals. Inland, Bellingrath Gardens is a 905-acre area devoted to the cultivation of local plant life.
From history to horticulture, Mobile has a great deal to offer students, residents, and visitors. |
